GreenSky Contractors & Participating Merchants

How to find a contractor that offers GreenSky® financing, what to ask before you apply, and the warning signs to walk away from.

GreenSky Contractors Near You

Quick answer

GreenSky® financing is only available through merchants enrolled in the program, mostly home improvement contractors. To use it, ask the contractors quoting your project whether they offer GreenSky, then apply through that contractor. The loan pays that merchant directly and cannot be moved to a different company.

The American Bankers Association describes a network of more than 12,000 merchants nationwide that have offered GreenSky financing, from single-truck contractors to large retailers.

How to Find a Contractor That Offers GreenSky

  1. Ask during every quote

The simplest route. Ask “Do you offer GreenSky, and which plans?” Contractors that do will usually have a sales link or QR code ready.

  2. Check financing pages

Participating companies often mention the GreenSky® Program and include the program's standard disclosure on their websites.

  3. Search locally

Search for your trade, your town and “GreenSky financing”, for example “roof replacement GreenSky financing Tampa”.

  4. Look inside contractor software

Tools such as Houzz Pro let enrolled professionals attach GreenSky loan options to estimates and invoices, so the option may appear on the estimate you receive.

Projects GreenSky Contractors Finance

Roofers installing a new shingle roofRoofing, siding & gutters

Roofing, siding & gutters

Full tear-offs, storm repairs, gutters and siding are among the most common GreenSky projects because they are large, urgent and hard to delay. Ask whether the roofer uses staged funding so you only authorize payment as phases are completed.

Technician installing an outdoor air conditioning unitHVAC & water heaters

HVAC & water heaters

Furnaces, central air, heat pumps and water heaters usually fail without warning. GreenSky's own contractor materials note that almost nobody plans for an HVAC problem, which is why so many heating and cooling companies offer on-the-spot financing.

New energy efficient windows on a modern homeWindows & doors

Windows & doors

Whole-house window replacements and entry or patio doors are frequently sold in-home with financing. Get the per-window price in writing and compare it with the financed total.

Solar panels on a residential roofSolar & energy efficiency

Solar & energy efficiency

GreenSky has financed solar panels, batteries and efficiency upgrades. Solar loans are large and long, so compare the GreenSky plan against dedicated solar lenders and check how any tax credit fits your payoff plan.

Bright remodeled kitchen interiorKitchens, baths & flooring

Kitchens, baths & flooring

Remodelers use GreenSky for cabinets, countertops, bath conversions and flooring. Remodels often change scope midway; make sure any change order is authorized by you before it is charged to the account.

New backyard swimming poolPools, decks & outdoor living

Pools, decks & outdoor living

Pool builders, deck and fence companies, and sunroom installers are active GreenSky merchants. Large outdoor projects often qualify for the longest terms, which lowers the payment but increases total interest.

Questions to Ask a GreenSky Contractor

About the plan

  • Which GreenSky plans do you offer, and which are you quoting?
  • When does the promotional period end?
  • What APR applies after the promotion?
  • Can I see the plan terms before I apply?

About the price

  • Is the financed price the same as the cash price?
  • Do you use staged funding, and when do I authorize each stage?
  • Can I prequalify with a soft pull first?
  • Who do I call if there is a problem with the work?

Red Flags When a Contractor Offers Financing

In 2021 the CFPB found that some GreenSky merchants took out loans for consumers who had not requested or authorized them. GreenSky was ordered to refund or cancel up to $9 million in such loans.

  • The salesperson asks for your Social Security number and completes the application on their device without showing you the terms.
  • You are asked to authorize the full amount before work starts, with no staged plan.
  • You are pressured to sign the same day to “lock in” a promotion.
  • The contractor cannot tell you which plan or promotional end date you are getting.
  • Texts or emails ask you to approve a charge you do not recognize. Check with GreenSky directly at 866-936-0602.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I find a contractor that accepts GreenSky?

Ask the contractors you are already getting quotes from whether they are enrolled in the GreenSky® program. Many list it on their website's financing page. Searching for your trade, your city and “GreenSky financing” also turns up local merchants.

Can I use my GreenSky loan with a different contractor?

Generally no. The account is tied to the merchant that offered it, and funds are paid to that merchant when you authorize a charge. If you change contractors, you would usually need new financing.

Does Home Depot use GreenSky?

Wikipedia notes that GreenSky's merchant network has ranged from retailers such as The Home Depot to individual contractors. Programs change over time, so ask the store or installer which financing they currently offer.

How does a contractor become a GreenSky merchant?

Businesses apply through the “Offer Financing” or merchant enrollment pages on greensky.com. GreenSky lists a merchant support line at 800-357-1558 and the email [email protected].

Why would a contractor offer GreenSky?

Financing can raise close rates and average job size because customers can spread the cost. In exchange the merchant pays fees on promotional plans, which is why some contractors price financed jobs differently.
